Italian Theater
Planned in 1984 by the architect Pier Luigi Cervellati, the theatre of Cattolica is a typical "Italian style theatre", one of the very few theatres built all over again after the war in Italy. Inaugurated by the soprano Katia Ricciarelli in concert on 14th January 1996, it is equipped with advanced technology, three tiers, 600 seats and an ample foyer suitable for hosting conferences and conventions. The theatre is designed in a classic horseshoe shape, typical of the so called Italian style theatres.
Elegance and modernity
The two tiers are crowned by a very wide and ample open gallery, therefore it can be considered as three tiered, and it seems as though it is embracing the stalls with its light coloured wooden frame. The architect Pier Luigi Cervellati has succeeded in marrying both extreme elegance and modernity. The basic Italian theatre style which encompasses functionality and versatility which are required for today's modern "show machine".
The theatre has a total of 700 seats, another 200 are available in the luxurious foyer situated beneath the theatre, used for meetings and conferences. The stage, is 12 metres by 10 metres, and has a space for an orchestra which can hold up to 50 musicians.
Rich theatrical season
A novelty regarding the orchestra is its mobility and the fact that it can be raised up to stage level, notably increasing its surface.
