The birth of the republic of San Marino
Immersed in the heart of Italy, overlooking the Adriatic Sea lies a tiny independent state,
the Republic of San Marino. According to historical tradition, this Republic was founded by a
stonemason named Marino who was entrusted with the task of restoring the walls of the fortress.
Marino with a friend named Leo, belonged to the Christian religion and for escape
persecutions of the emperor took refuge on Mount Titano. Our friend Leo, however, he found refuge
on Mount coffin, giving life to the city of
San Leo.
Places to visit
On the edge of Mount Titano stand three wonderful fortifications, still related to Citadel
below, through walls and trenches. The main places to visit are the Palace of
Government, the Basilica, the Church of San Francesco with attached Pinacoteca Museum, the Church of San Quirino
or the Capuchin and Craft Show Sammarinese. Of note, there are also several museums
private: the Maranello Rosso Collection, the Museum of Modern Weapons, the Museum of Vehicles, the Museum
Wax, the Museum of Curiosities, the Reptilarium-Aquarium, the castle of Serravalle, Borgo Maggiore
connected to the center with a picturesque cable car, old domain Faetano the Malatesta of Rimini, Domagnano
wealth of viewpoints, Chiesanuova immersed in nature, the Castello di Acquaviva with
its many craft shops and famous for dairy products, and archaeological area Fiorentino
Montegiardino of Lombard origin and location of an ancient castle of rare beauty.
